Congradulations Andy on becoming Mayo Captain 2012 Print E-mail

In what has been a remarkable few years for our own Andy Moran things have got off to flyer yet again ahead of this year's senior championship. Progressing from last year where Andy won a well deserved ALL-Star award for fantastic performances throughout the League and Championship campaign, James Horan, Mayo senior manager, has handed Andy the captain's armband for the coming year. This is of course just to put a title on a man who shows tremendous leadership skills both on and off the field for both club and county year in year out. Everyone associated with Ballaghaderreen GAA Club would like to wish Andy every success in his new role and have full faith in his capabilities. See below for further details for various news sources:

Andy Moran Mayo Senior Captain

Moran Named Captain:

The Mayo senior football team will be led into battle for the rest of the year by Andy Moran.
The Ballaghaderreen native was handed the captaincy by Mayo manager, James Horan, at the team’s training camp in Portugal last week and will have his first ‘official’ assignment as skipper in next Sunday’s National League Final against Cork.

Speaking to The Mayo News last night, Horan praised Moran for his leadership “on and off the field” and confirmed that David Clarke would be Mayo’s vice-captain.

Andy Gets the Armband:

After rotating the title amongst a number of senior players this year, James Horan has now handed the captain’s armband to Ballaghaderreen’s Andy Moran for the remainder of 2012. The Mayo News broke the story today and the same paper also carries an exclusive interview with the newly-appointed Mayo skipper.

Andy will be a popular choice as captain and it’s obvious that he’s a natural leader on the pitch. He was vice-captain last year – Ballina Stephenites’ David Clarke has been handed that role this year – and his excellent form in 2012, which culminated in a richly-deserved All-Star award, marked him out then as one of our real key men.

Moran Confirmed as Mayo Captain:

Centre-forward Andy Moran has been officially installed as Mayo's captain, and he will lead the county in Sunday's Allianz League final against Cork.

Mayo boss James Horan plumped for Moran after using a number of captains during the early part of the season, including Keith Higgins, Moran and last year's skipper Alan Dillon.

Moran, a former vice-captain, was confirmed as the westerners' 2012 captain at the panel's training camp in Portugal last week.
